I rented an apartment in Sliema for two years and moved out leaving it in reasonable condition, but the landlord is refusing to return my deposit, listing normal scuff marks and a slightly faded curtain as ‘damage’. Is this something the Consumer Claims Tribunal can even help with, or is this a different process entirely?

Residential tenancy deposit disputes in Malta are primarily governed by the Private Residential Leases Act rather than general consumer protection legislation, and disputes over deposit deductions are typically handled through the Housing Authority's deposit resolution scheme if your deposit was registered there, or otherwise through the Rent Regulation Board or ordinary civil proceedings, rather than the Consumer Claims Tribunal. Check whether your deposit was placed with a registered deposit scheme when the lease began, since if it was, there is usually a defined process for challenging deductions through that scheme. Document the condition of the property with photos from move-in and move-out if you have them, and note that normal wear and tear is generally not something a landlord is entitled to deduct for. Send the landlord a written breakdown request itemising the claimed damages, and if unresolved, pursue the matter through the Housing Authority or the Rent Regulation Board, which deal specifically with residential lease disputes in Malta.

I bought a sofa from a Maltese furniture website two weeks ago and paid in full. It has not been delivered yet but I changed my mind and want to cancel the order. The company is saying that because it was custom-coloured, cancellation is not possible. Is that legal?

I ordered a laptop from an online store based in Malta and when the box arrived the casing was cracked along one corner. The seller is now claiming it must have happened during shipping and is refusing to replace it or refund me. I still have the original packaging and photos I took right after opening the box. What are my options here?
