I ordered a laptop from an online store based in Malta and when the box arrived the casing was cracked along one corner. The seller is now claiming it must have happened during shipping and is refusing to replace it or refund me. I still have the original packaging and photos I took right after opening the box. What are my options here?

Under the Consumer Affairs Act, Chapter 378 of the Laws of Malta, goods bought at a distance must conform to the contract description and be free from defects, and the burden of proving that a defect was caused by the buyer rather than being present at delivery generally falls on the trader, not the consumer. Your first step should be a written complaint to the seller (email is fine, but keep it dated) attaching your photos and proof of delivery date, formally requesting a repair, replacement or refund. If the seller continues to refuse within a reasonable time, you can lodge a complaint with the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA), which oversees enforcement of consumer protection rules, or file a claim directly with the Consumer Claims Tribunal, which was set up specifically to resolve disputes like this one without the cost and delay of ordinary court proceedings. Keep all correspondence, as it will form the basis of your case file.

A salesperson came to my house in Mosta unannounced and, after a long pitch, I ended up signing a contract for a water filtration system I did not really want. I signed the same evening under pressure and paid a deposit by card. Two days later I regretted it. Can I still cancel?

I placed one order on a Maltese online shop and my bank statement shows I was charged twice for the exact same amount on the same day. I only received one item. Customer service keeps saying they will 'look into it' but three weeks have passed with no refund.

I bought tickets to a concert in Malta from a ticket resale website, not the original organiser, paying a marked-up price. The event has now been officially cancelled and the original organiser is refunding face-value tickets, but the resale site is refusing to refund the markup I paid them. Do I have any claim against the resale platform?
