I was browsing an electronics website registered in Malta and the listed price for a television was clearly shown as one figure, but at checkout it charged me a higher amount and only afterwards did I notice the difference on my bank statement. I only realised a few days later. Can I demand the lower price or a refund of the difference?

Advertising a price that differs from what is actually charged can amount to a misleading commercial practice, and traders operating in Malta are subject to consumer protection standards on price transparency connected to the Consumer Affairs Act, Chapter 378 of the Laws of Malta, which is largely aligned with EU consumer rules on unfair commercial practices. Take a screenshot or archived copy of the listing showing the original advertised price if you still have access to it, along with your payment confirmation showing the higher amount actually charged. Contact the seller in writing, point out the discrepancy, and request a refund of the difference between the advertised and charged price. If the seller refuses or ignores you, report the practice to the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA), which monitors misleading pricing, and consider a claim through the Consumer Claims Tribunal to recover the overcharged amount.

I bought a used car from a dealer in Birkirkara and within a week the engine started making a loud knocking noise. A mechanic told me it needs major work. The dealer says used cars are sold as-is and won't help. Is that actually true under Maltese law?

I placed one order on a Maltese online shop and my bank statement shows I was charged twice for the exact same amount on the same day. I only received one item. Customer service keeps saying they will 'look into it' but three weeks have passed with no refund.

I rented an apartment in Sliema for two years and moved out leaving it in reasonable condition, but the landlord is refusing to return my deposit, listing normal scuff marks and a slightly faded curtain as 'damage'. Is this something the Consumer Claims Tribunal can even help with, or is this a different process entirely?
