A salesperson came to my house in Mosta unannounced and, after a long pitch, I ended up signing a contract for a water filtration system I did not really want. I signed the same evening under pressure and paid a deposit by card. Two days later I regretted it. Can I still cancel?

Contracts concluded away from a trader's business premises, such as doorstep sales, are treated as off-premises contracts and generally carry the same 14-day cancellation right as distance sales under the Consumer Affairs Act, Chapter 378 of the Laws of Malta, provided you were properly informed of that right at the time. If the salesperson did not clearly explain your cancellation right and provide it in writing, that failure can actually extend the period during which you are entitled to cancel. Send written notice of cancellation as soon as possible, by email or registered letter, referencing the off-premises nature of the sale, and request a full refund of your deposit. Keep any paperwork the salesperson left with you as evidence of what was and was not disclosed. If the trader disputes your right to cancel, you can seek assistance from the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) or bring a claim to the Consumer Claims Tribunal.

I placed one order on a Maltese online shop and my bank statement shows I was charged twice for the exact same amount on the same day. I only received one item. Customer service keeps saying they will 'look into it' but three weeks have passed with no refund.
