Online seller in Malta refuses to accept return because packaging was opened

I cancelled a monthly subscription box service based in Malta through their app three months ago, and I even received a cancellation confirmation email at the time, but they have continued charging my card every month since. Support keeps saying my cancellation ‘didn’t go through’ on their end.
Continuing to charge a consumer after a documented cancellation is a clear breach of the trader's obligations, and the Consumer Affairs Act, Chapter 378 of the Laws of Malta, entitles you to a refund of any payments taken after your valid cancellation was communicated, regardless of an internal system error on the trader's side. Reply to the company referencing your original cancellation confirmation email with its date, and formally demand a refund of every charge taken since that date plus confirmation that no further charges will be made. If they continue to be unresponsive, dispute the recurring charges with your bank or card issuer, which can often block further payments to that merchant. You can also file a complaint with the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) about the trader's failure to process cancellations properly, and pursue the outstanding refund through the Consumer Claims Tribunal if needed.
