I’m a citizen of another EU country and I’m planning to move to Malta for work. I keep seeing a lot of information online about visas and work permits, but I’m not sure how much of it actually applies to me as an EU citizen, or whether the process is meant to be much simpler.

As an EU citizen, you benefit from the EU right of free movement, meaning you do not need a visa to enter Malta and you do not need a work permit or Single Permit in the way non-EU nationals do, since the more complex Single Permit system under the Immigration Act, Chapter 217 of the Laws of Malta, is specifically designed for third-country nationals rather than EU, EEA, or Swiss citizens. However, if you intend to live or work in Malta for longer than three months, you are still required to register your residence with Identità, which will issue you an eResidence document confirming your status, and this registration process is generally significantly more straightforward than the non-EU process, typically involving booking an appointment and providing your passport along with proof of employment or, if not employed, proof of sufficient means and health coverage to support yourself. While the process is considerably simpler than for non-EU nationals, it is still a required legal step rather than optional, so registering with Identità within the relevant timeframe once you settle in Malta is something you should plan to do promptly after your move.

My employer has submitted a Single Permit application on my behalf so I can move to Malta for work, but I have no clear idea how long I should realistically expect this to take. I need to plan my move and I don't want to give notice at my current job too early or too late.

I currently hold a residence permit in Malta tied to my specific job and employer, but I've just been made redundant. I'm worried about what this means for my ability to stay in Malta and whether I have any grace period to find new employment before my legal status is affected.

I'm looking into moving to Malta for work and I've heard there might be a minimum salary threshold that has to be met for a work-based residence permit to actually be approved. Is this true, and does it apply to all types of jobs or only certain sectors?
